The National Board of Revenue’s (NBR) Intelligence Unit (CIC) launched a raid today at the Savanna Resort, owned by former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed, located in Gopalganj.
The operation began early this morning, with a team of 15 CIC officers entering the resort in Shahpur Union, Gopalganj.
The team’s goal is to investigate the assets Benazir Ahmed has declared and compare them with what they find in reality.
By midday, the officers had made their way around the 612-acre resort, which is currently under the control of the district administration.
Though open to visitors, the resort has been mostly quiet, with very few people around.
Benazir Ahmed, who served as IGP from April 2020 to September 2022, is no stranger to high-profile positions.
Before his tenure as IGP, he was the Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and the Director General of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
These days, however, he is living outside the country.
Before the government’s fall, sparked by the student protests, media outlets had already reported several allegations against Benazir.
More recently, in December, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed four cases against him, his wife, and two daughters.
